The Ladies Club Singles Championship was played on 10th December 2020, with 2019-20 Champion Heather Taylor successfully defending her title. Heather defeated Carol Fox, who put in a great effort and really stretched Heather in the final.
In the subsequent WGBD Champion of Champion Singles, Heather had the misfortune of being drawn to play against eventual Champion Pat Fraser-Aurisch, representing Neerim District, in the first round, going down 25 shots to 10.
The 2020-21 Men's Club Singles finals were held on 20th December 2020. In the Semi Finals, Tim Anderson defeated Bruce Giles, while Jim Lawrence defeated Darren Kane. The final was a close contest, with Tim narrowly beating Jim to take the Champion’s title - 25 shots to 20.
On the first day of the WGBD Champion of Champion Singles, Tim had wins over Steve Pallot from Warragul (25-18) and Denis Gunn from Thorpdale (25-12). The second day of the Championship was played indoors at Traralgon due to the hot weather. Tim beat Ian Kirkup, playing on his home rink, in the morning semi, winning 25-20. He then played Alan Grubb of Newborough in the afternoon and went down 25-21.
Congratulations to Tim Anderson who finished overall Runner-Up in the WGBD Champion of Champions Men’s Singles.
The organisers of this year’s Club Ladies’ Pairs Championship decided to make it a “drawn” event, following the 2-4-2 format, in an effort to attract as many participants as possible. The organisers were concerned that there would be insufficient entries if players were allowed to organize their own partners, as is traditionally the case in Club Championships. The resulting drawn partnerships led to some interesting match-ups and surprise results.
Two of the better matched pairings made it through to the final, with Pat Tatterson and Margaret Moss defeating Helen Robertson and Carol Saunders in an entertaining game – 13 shots to 8.
Unlike the Ladies’ Club Pairs Championship, the male players followed the tradition of selecting their own playing partners. Ken Capper and Tim Anderson were quick to sign up as a team having played together on the same rink for most of the Saturday Pennant season.
The semi-finals saw Tim and Ken defeat Darren Kane and Tim Fraser, whilst Mal Clymo and Tony Dawson booked their place in the final with a win over Wayne Hurst and Sean Tatterson.
Tim and Ken were the ultimate champions, defeating Mal and Tony in the final.
What the Mixed Pair's Championship lacked in number of entries, it certainly made up for in the number of high-quality, hard-fought games, between several well-matched pairings.
Two rounds saw an initial number of eight teams whittled down to the final two. After wins over the Lavells, then Marg Moss and Peter Rosenboom, Carol Fox and Steve Lodge won through on one side of the draw.
The other half saw Barb Evans and Ken Capper defeat the pairings of Mary Holdsworth and Peter Jonas, followed by Sue Robinson and Paul Dawson, to reach the final.
The two teams played off in the Final on 29th April 2021., with Ken and Barb the ultimate winner of the 2021 Championship.
